The Fred 2024
THE FRED 2024
One week on from the Fred Whitton Challenge 2024, it’s time once again for the team at steveflemingphoto.com to look back and reflect on some of the events of the day we photographed.

A fantastic turn-out of 2147 riders started this year’s challenge, facing off against the fearsome climbs, challenging descents, and- as a special treat for the 2024 edition- a ‘brisk’ headwind up Hardknott Pass.
As usual, there was a wonderful attitude displayed by riders. It’s always uplifting to see smiling faces and a chipper frame of mind, especially on sections of the route that hit 33%. It really demonstrates the spirit of The Fred Whitton Challenge: it is a challenge and every effort is ‘a good effort’.
Similarly, we saw a number of spectators quick to lend a hand for those who needed support- be it a quick shove to get moving again or, in one case we saw, a steadier hand to assist with a puncture.
We hope that all your legs are feeling fully recovered now and also to see many of you ride out again in the future. Chapeau to every one of you, from all of us at steveflemingphoto: Steve, Marian, Matthew, Carlos, and Darren.

Starting the day off bright and early on Kirkstone Pass:

Still smiles all round at this point!
...And still going onto Newlands!

The story changes a little on Hardknott Pass though...

But when things get tough- the best bet is to dig deep and push on:

Still, the cheery atmosphere persists!

Always a pleasure to see a tandem take on some tough ascents- ridden here by Team Erdinger Alkoholfrei.

As well as a tri-disc! On the infamous hairpin no less!

A few of our photographers were clearly impressed with this display of facial hair.

Don't forget to check our "Products and Prices" section for a variety of different styles of photo, editing, and presentation options.

Matthew, our trained camera goblin, captured here on our newly added Hairpin Remote Camera- individual pictures and a 6 minute 4k Timelapse video are available!

The indefatigable spirit of the Fred Whitton Challenge. Just keep pushing on- even if you need a hand to get started again:

What's going through this rider's mind? Answers on a postcard:

Sometimes you'll have a perfectly clear run at some of the tougher spots, but part of the joy of the event is riding with others.

Fortunately, our Cold Dark North was a little less cold and dark than it is capable of being.

Once again, chapeau and 'a good effort' to all those who rode this edition of The Fred Whitton Challenge, we hope to see many of you again next year!
Special thanks to all the volunteers who make the event what it is for us all to enjoy.
